Dear Colleagues in Sport,
This week’s message comes against the backdrop of the official start of the Inaugural Central American and Caribbean Beach Games in Santa Marta, Colombia. On behalf of our organisation, CANOC, I have sent a message of congratulations to President of Centro Caribe Sport, Luis Mejia Oviedo, our colleague and friend, whose support for our Inaugural Caribbean Games in July was extremely critical to their successful realisation.
Globally, the FIFA Football World Cup has started and while CANOC does not have a team present, our colleagues in the Olympic Movement in the Americas are well represented, We take this opportunity to wish them well.
The CANOC Executive convened on Friday 18 November and agreed the establishment of several working Commissions. These are:
- Academy
- Communications
- Coordination
- Finance
- Gender Leadership
- Marketing
- Juridical
- Sustainability
Individuals have been approached to Chair the aforementioned Commissions and assist the Executive in agreeing the appointment of members to serve on each. The relevant terms of reference are being prepared and each will facilitate its calendar of work and related activities for the quadrennial.
Among the immediate priorities are the comprehensive review and modernisation of the CANOC Constitution as well as the Incorporation of the institution. The completion of the search for a host for the 2nd edition of the Caribbean Games is another priority and I take this opportunity to remind those with an interest in hosting the Games in 2025 that thedeadline is 31 March 2023. This is also much agreement on encouraging others to contemplate hosting in 2029.
I can assure you that the CANOC Executive has committed to meeting monthly, on the second Thursday, to do the work for which you have elected us.
Yours In Olympism
